about
This song is about Success and Respect. Success is something we are all constantly working to obtain. With new goals comes new challenges. Overcoming them brings about success. Respect is something the helps to validate us in the world. When you lose it, you try to do whatever it takes to regain it. I used a structure of classic 80's R&B songs to entertain and speak to the depth of the concept and how they relate to the loving of self.
lyrics
Chorus:
You're gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone, So Long Ago (Success, Respect I want you all)
The wrongs, the rights, the distance and
lonely nights I stayed persistent
If this is the end, let's not pretend, the strings been cut again.
Verse 1:
Gullible, naive and humble
sentimental, I want you but fumble
stumbling back to the locker room, shower,
then review the plays where it all crumbled.
Before my eyes, you tease
disguised as easy and not really, believe me
I prepped my knees to carry weight
happy to drape with the finest, appreciation of the kindest
You served some of the sweetest hors d'oeuvres,
I'm hype for your main dish... your curves
but sharp turns made it seem I had insurance to burn
and with more accidents, huh, the more concern.
I learned tho, experience says more than words can explain
but yet again... opportunity knocks
I'm back in my lane
chasing success to gain, my resume awaits your name.
Chorus 2:
You're gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone, So Long Ago (Success, Respect I want you all)
The wrongs, the rights, the distance and
lonely nights I stayed persistent
If this is the end, let's not pretend, the strings been cut again.
Verse 2:
Make me an offer
I know it costs a bit, I won't fault yah
you gave me all of this. Was wrong to diss,
dishing neglect and disinterest, that's how things fit when they're conquered.. No honor
I'm on to the next stage to bomb but
egos have a mind of their own
and when in Rome,
you do as the Romans do
I use to set the trends,
now forgot the truth.
True friends, remind me of the highs
while others in my pocket, trying to pry
I oblige
a prostitute, in time
I'm drawn out or worn out from use
I need you back, backing me
It hasn't been the same since your vacancy...
and strangely enough, I have to give in order to get
Respect, you belong in my bed
till death do us
renew my breath, renew my breath!
Chorus 3:
You're gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone, So Long Ago (Success, Respect I want you all)
The wrongs, the rights, the distance and
lonely nights I stayed persistent
If this is the end, let's not pretend, the strings been cut again.
